MP Gerald Keddy Announces Federal Funding for Liverpool Ukulele Ceilidh Society

Liverpool, NS – Gerald Keddy, Conservative Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margaret’s, today announced federal funding of $3,000 for the Liverpool Ukulele Ceilidh Society.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support the 3rd International Ukulele Ceilidh,” said MP Keddy. “By partnering with the Liverpool Ukulele Ceilidh Society we can assist them in providing opportunities for residents and visitors to learn about the ukulele through workshops that cover all skill levels as well as three evenings of concerts.”

"The community of Liverpool hosts many festivals which, without government funding, would not necessarily come to fruition. We are very appreciative of this funding which will greatly aid us in ensuring that our 3rd International Ukulele Ceilidh is a success, ” said Martin Hilliard, Chair of the Liverpool Ukulele Ceilidh Society. “This support provides us with the opportunity to highlight our local ukulele groups and to encourage international performers to share their talents with Ceilidh attendees and local Nova Scotians.  It also affords us the opportunity to offer high-quality workshops and outstanding concerts.  Our Ukulele Ceilidh enriches the lives of local residents and attracts uke lovers from around the world to our beautiful community."

In September 2007, the Conservative Government announced the new Building Communities through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program to provide Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.

“Music is a key component of the cultural heritage of our region,” said MP Keddy. “I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the Liverpool Ukulele Ceilidh Society for helping to build the cultural and social foundations of our community.”

The “3rd International Ukulele Ceilidh” will take place in Liverpool, NS and surrounding area October 22 to October 25, 2009. Workshops will be held at White Point Beach Resort with all concerts being held at the historic Astor Theatre.
