Canada’s New Government helps people in Nova Scotia find jobs

Chester, NS—Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore–St. Margaret’s, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced $309,245 funding for two projects that will be coordinated by the South Shore Community Service Association to help unemployed people in Nova Scotia find and maintain employment.

“Canada’s New Government is committed to creating the best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world,” said Mr. Keddy. “We are proud to work with the South Shore Community Service Association to provide people in Lunenburg and Queens Counties with the opportunity for personal growth and skills development, and to help them obtain employment.”

The South Shore Community Service Association will receive $236,461 for the South Shore Work Activity Program, a 52-week long project aimed at providing unemployed individuals with employment counselling, life skills workshops and employment readiness training. The Association will also receive $72,784 for the Chester Career Resource Centre, which will provide unemployed individuals in the Chester area with access to job search support services and career exploration services to enable them to plan for and obtain employment.

“The services provided by the South Shore Work Activity Program and the Career Resource Centre are essential in helping people in Lunenburg and Queens Counties find meaningful employment and improve their lives,” said David Outhouse, Managing Director. “These funds will allow us to accomplish our mission of giving people a chance to experience personal growth, develop skills, and plan for their futures”.
