On Friday, July 27, 2008, Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore - St. Margaret's, and the Honourable Jamie Muir, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations were in attendance for the official grand opening of the South Queens Water Treatment Plant. The Plant received funding from all three levels of government, through the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF), in May 2006.

Excerpt from MP Keddy's speech: "The Government of Canada recognizes that modern municipal services make an important contribution to a community's ability to grow and prosper. And there is perhaps no municipal service as important as having safe and reliable drinking water."
