The Government of Canada Supports Queens Recreational Boating Association

BROOKLYN, Nova Scotia – Residents and visitors to the Queens County area will have an opportunity to take part in HomeMade, a community event presented by the Queens Recreational Boating Association, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada.

Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament (South Shore–St. Margaret’s), on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Queens Recreational Boating Association.

Funding of $10,000 will help the Queens Recreational Boating Association present HomeMade, a community event that will take place in Brooklyn from August 21 to 24, 2008. Concerts, arts and craft showcases, youth activities, and traditional Aboriginal demonstrations are among the highlights of this celebration.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to announce funding for HomeMade,” said Minister Verner. “We are proud to partner with communities to support activities that celebrate local history, arts, and heritage.”

“Festivals like this one bring people of all ages and backgrounds together and contribute to building strong communities,” said Mr. Keddy. “I am proud that our Government has taken decisive steps to strengthen our shared sense of heritage.”

“We are very pleased to receive this support for HomeMade,” said Jean Robinson-Dexter, Chair of Queens County SeaFest. “The funding allows us to enhance our ability to showcase musicians and artisans connected with Queens County at the Queens County SeaFest.”

The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in events and activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and anniversaries throughout Canada this year.

Applications for funding for festivals to be held between January 1 and August 31, 2009, and for community historical commemorations between January 1 and December 31, 2009, must be received by September 1, 2008.
