The Honourable John Baird, Minister of Environment, visited MP Keddy's riding on August 13, 2008 where he was treated to a boat tour of the Mahone Bay and area islands by members of the Mahone Islands Conservation Association (MICA). MP Keddy invited Minister Baird to his riding of South Shore - St. Margaret's to meet with members of MICA to learn about MICA, their future plans for many of the Mahone islands, and to identify projects that have potential for Environment Canada funding.

While in the area, Minister Baird also made an announcement for the protection of more than 335 hectares of forest in Deep Cove, Lunenburg County.
