Bridgewater, NS (June 21, 2011) – Thousands of community organizations from coast to coast to coast will let Canadians express their pride in their country, thanks to support from the Government of Canada.
On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margaret’s, invites the residents of South Shore – St. Margaret’s to take part in the activities being held from June 21 to July 1, 2011.
“As Canada’s birthday approaches, enthusiasm is building among the citizens of every province and territory. You are showing your pride in being Canadian and in the fundamental values we share,” said Minister Moore. “Canada Day is an opportunity to get together with friends and family to express your love for Canada and to pay tribute to the achievements of the men and women who have made our country the best in the world!”
“Canada Day is a day to recognize and celebrate Canada’s outstanding persons, places, and events. Our military history, our determination to preserve our land, and our evolution as a society all point to our country’s proud past and bright future,” said Gerald Keddy, MP for South Shore – St. Margaret’s.
In 2011, the Government of Canada will invest in approximately 1,800 Celebrate Canada projects and activities across the country. The program celebrates National Aboriginal Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and Canada Day.
In South Shore – St. Margaret’s, a total of $34,145 has been awarded to the following:

- Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 79 - $3,450 (New Ross, NS)
- Canada Day on the LaHave Society - $2,200 (Bridgewater, NS)
- Town of Clark’s Harbour - $1,725 (Clark’s Harbour, NS)
- Nova Scotia Guides Association - $1,500 (Caledonia, NS)
- North Queens Board of Trade - $1,200 (Caledonia, NS)
- Hubbards Heritage Society - $1,150 (Hubbards, NS)
- Shelburne Association Supporting Inclusion - $1,000 (Shelburne, NS)
- North Queens Nursing Home - $750 (Caledonia, NS)
- Queens Home For Special Care Society (Queens Manor) - $750 (Liverpool, NS)
- Through the Years Daycare & Community Centre - $750 (Hubbards, NS)
- Town of Lunenburg Canada Day Concert & Community Picnic - $565 (Lunenburg, NS)
- Charing Cross Garden Club - $330 (New Ross, NS)
- Shoreham Village Senior Citizens Association - $250 (Chester, NS)
On July 1, in addition to the many events taking place throughout Nova Scotia, the Government of Canada will present a spectacular show on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The show, featuring performances by some of Canada’s best-known artists, will be broadcast live across the country on CBC, CBC News Network, Radio‑Canada, and RDI.
