Bridgewater, NS – Gerald Keddy, MP for South Shore – St. Margaret’s today announced funding for five community festivals celebrating local arts, culture and heritage throughout the South Shore.
“Our Government is proud to support these festivals,” said Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”
“Through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, the Government of Canada is bringing neighbours and visitors alike together to take part in activities that showcase and celebrate our shared Canadian identity,” said MP Keddy.
The following festivals will be receiving funding via the Building Communities Through Arts & Heritage program:
- South Shore Exhibition (Bridgewater, NS) - $36,700
- South Shore in Motion Festival (Bridgewater, NS) - $9,900
- Harmony Bazaar: Festival of Women & Song (Lockeport, NS) - $7,846
- Chester Art Festival (Chester, NS) - $4,600
- Memorial Celebration – Art of Howard Shenkel (Heritage Art of the Petite Riviere Valley – Petite Riviere, NS) - $500
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
